Depending on the technology, the system may analyze palm lines, geometry, texture, or vascular patterns. In access control, its main potential advantage is combining a relatively large biometric area with contactless or low-interaction operation, but performance depends on the sensor, distance, positioning, lighting, enrollment, algorithm, database size, and authentication policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this reason, a \u201cpalm reader\u201d should not be treated as a single category. A design must distinguish which characteristic will be measured, how capture occurs, whether contact is required, which environmental conditions are supported, how liveness\/PAD is implemented, where the template is stored, which performance metrics are provided, and how the solution will be tested with actual users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Palm biometrics can refer to different technologies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hand provides several biometric characteristics. Systems may use images of palm lines and creases, hand geometry, surface texture, vascular networks captured with infrared, or a combination of signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These approaches are not equivalent. Each has different capture, range, lighting, hardware, and processing requirements. The specification should name the modality and function, avoiding generic expressions such as \u201chand biometrics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"a3a-mermaid\"><svg id=\"a3a-diagram-1\"
