Slowdowns, dropouts, packet loss, latency fluctuations, ports renegotiating speed and service interruptions may originate in different layers: cabling, interfaces, switches, uplinks, Wi-Fi, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, firewall, servers or external links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efficient diagnosis begins by <strong>defining the symptom, delimiting the failure domain, collecting evidence and testing hypotheses in sequence<\/strong>. Replacing cables, restarting switches or replacing equipment without a baseline may even mask the problem, but it rarely produces a reliable correction. The correct approach is to separate the physical layer, logical layer, capacity and application until the root cause is identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does a stable network mean?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A stable network is not simply a \u201cfast\u201d network. Stability means predictable behavior over time: links remain active, interfaces do not accumulate errors abnormally, latency and jitter remain compatible with the application, essential services respond consistently and the network supports load without unexpected fluctuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An infrastructure may perform well in a one-time speed test and still be unstable. Likewise, a network with low average utilization may experience saturation peaks that affect critical applications for a few minutes each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this reason, performance must be analyzed as behavior, not as a single measurement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Main symptoms of network problems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most common symptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>intermittent connection;<\/li><li>ports or links going down;<\/li><li>speed renegotiation;<\/li><li>slow performance at specific times;<\/li><li>packet loss;<\/li><li>increased latency;<\/li><li>high jitter;<\/li><li>applications disconnecting;<\/li><li>videoconferencing interruptions;<\/li><li>IP cameras with frame loss or reconnections;<\/li><li>IP phones with audio failures;<\/li><li>access points restarting;<\/li><li>PoE devices shutting down under load;<\/li><li>normal local access but slow internet;<\/li><li>only one department or VLAN affected;<\/li><li>failures that disappear after equipment is restarted.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each symptom directs the diagnosis toward different hypotheses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First step: delimit the failure domain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-a3a-destaque\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slowness is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Before replacing cables or switches, determine who is affected, which path the traffic takes and where the degradation begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/a3aengenharia.com.br\/servicos\/levantamento-e-diagnostico\/due-diligence\/\">Learn about Technical Due Diligence<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before testing any component, determine <strong>who is affected and when<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Useful questions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>is it a single user or several users?<\/li><li>only wired devices or Wi-Fi as well?<\/li><li>are they all on the same switch?<\/li><li>does the problem affect a specific VLAN?<\/li><li>does it occur only at a certain time?<\/li><li>does it involve local access, the internet or both?<\/li><li>did it begin after a configuration change or construction work?<\/li><li>are PoE devices also restarting?<\/li><li>is the problem continuous or intermittent?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answers significantly narrow the investigation scope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Layer-by-layer diagnosis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A robust method follows the communications chain and tests each domain with its own
